Disappearing Bars  are my go to recipe when I need a ‘make and take’ dessert.

They make up quickly.  I usually have all the ingredients in the pantry and I always come home with an empty plate.

I love the texture of these chocolate bars.They have a fudgie center and a shortbread-like crust and topping.  They hold together well whether transported on a fancy platter to a party or in a lunch box to school.

The main ingredient in the bars is Goody Mix.  An invention of mine.  You see, many years ago someone asked me if all my antique cookie jars were filled with cookies.  I wondered what I’d have to do to fill them.  That’s when I was first struck with the idea of an all-purpose dessert mix.  It took a lot of flour and sugar, but I got this formula just right.  My family convinced that others would enjoy being included in this ‘great desserts secret’ and so I’m sharing with all of you.

Goody Mix makes a gazillion things in its own rite.  And then using my ‘Mix-ups’ (7 more mixes made out of Goody Mix) you can make a gazillion more.  There are quite a few recipes using my  crazy creations right on this site.  So please, explore and have fun.   The only limit is your imagination.  This is one of the 70 or so recipes in my Goody Mix Cookbook. Disappearing Bars

These disappearing bars are made of a fudge filling in a shortbread dough. It make these bars irresistible. Make them fast and easy using the Goody Mix.

Ingredients

  

• Dough:
• 2 1/4 cups Goody Mix
• 1 egg
• 3 T. butter softened
• Filling:
• 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk 1/2 of a 14 oz. can
• 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/4 cup butter

Instructions

 

• Heat the oven to 350°.
• Grease a 9 x 9 inch baking pan.
• Beat Goody Mix, egg and 3 T. butter in a large bowl until blended. (Dough will be dry, but hold together when pressed.)
• Press 2/3 of dough into prepared pan. Set aside the remaining 1/3 dough.
• In a microwave safe bowl, melt the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate and butter on high for 30 seconds. Stir and return to microwave for a few seconds until it stirs smoothly.
• Pour mixture over crust.
• Dollop the chocolate mixture with small spoonsful of the reserved dough mixture.
• Bake 20 to 25 minutes until lightly browned.
• Cool; cut into 24 bars.
