I wasn’t planning on whipping up this Poultry Seasoning  recipe yesterday.  I was in the middle of a recipe and tossing luscious things into the Crockpot and after a thorough search of the spice cupboard, I realized I had used the last bit of it a few weeks ago.  Fortunately I didn’t have to drop everything and run to the store.  I have my own recipe.  So I decided to set up my camera and share with you how easy it is to make your own seasoning blends.

Speaking of unique — this poultry seasoning makes a great seasonal gift for friends and family.  See my gifting suggestion later in the article.

I really like customizing my own spice mixtures.  I often make my own Provencal seasoning that I sprinkle over pan steaks deglazed in balsamic vinegar or on a quiche on its way to the oven.  I love having my own blends of herbs and spices.  It gives what you cook something unique — a signature.

The Poultry Seasoning blend is handy to have on hand. It is something that is used on turkey and chicken as well as in stuffing and soup.  It is a savory blend.

I use an inexpensive little hand grinder to crush the herbs.  You can also use a small blender jar or a mortar and pestle.   When I make my own herbs and spice blends I keep the amounts small.  This way I know how fresh it is and I haven’t over-committed my spices to one particular thing.

I’ve poke a hole in the bottom of a muffin liner and placed it in the base to my hand grinder as quick little hack for a custom-size funnel.

Take a minute and watch the tutorial to see just how easy it is:
