Happy Hack!

Opening my linen closet, I dove in to retrieve all my Christmas holiday quilts, pillows and sheets. Holiday linens are a tiny, but favorite tradition of mine.  It is one of the very first things I do during the holidays, along with placing my box of Christmas sheet music next to the piano.  When these things have occurred, I feel the season is officially open to all the usual sweet traditions of music, tree-trimming and of course baking.

Naturally I didn’t want to make more than one trip between bed and closet, (who does?) so I filled my arms to the brim and then reached out my free hand (well fingers really) and tried to grasp the queen-size stack of sheets.  Did this end in disaster with quilts, blankets and sheets in a heap at my ankles?  It could have. I should have.  But it didn’t.

I’ve learned a new trick.  It’s easy and I’m sharing it with you. Ready?

Here is how to store sheets tidily:  After you’ve folded the sheets and one of the cases, put it all in the other pillow case.

That’s it.  For me it was one of those “doh” moments, smacking my forehead and wondering why I’d ever done it differently.

How you choose to arrange them inside the case depends on your own preference and shelf space.  You can lay the bundle of sheets out flat,  sheets side by side. But my shelves are narrow.  I turn the holding case inside out and then fold it open, in half.  Storing sheets this way also cures the problems of the ungainly folds of the fitted sheet and you’ll never lose a pillow case again. (Yippee!)

And of course it makes the linen closet tidy and pretty. 🙂
