For over 40 years my day job has been writing fantasy novels and games with my husband, Tracy Hickman.  My husband and I have written numerous games and 12 novels together.

In 2011 I started this blog at the request of friends and family to share my many recipes and crafty projects.

As a child, I was taught how to cook, knit, crochet, embroider and sew. Interstingly, I pursued learning how to make my own sewing patterns as a teenager and started designing my own clothing as well as crochet and knitting patterns as well.  

I’m thrifty and love a good shopping deal as well as fun ‘hacks’ for the home.  I adores outdoor photography & watercolor painting and enjoy the challenge of food photography.

In 2018 I began exploring my love of art through surface pattern design.

Here at Baking Outside the Box I share making a life from all things homemade.  While my focus is low carb  recipes, I also love to share great home tips, crafts and sewing projects as well as the occasional knit or crochet pattern.
