I’ve made this crochet bootees pattern a gazillion times. Well, maybe half a gazillion times.

I started making newborn baby layettes for charity shortly after 911. It was my self-imposed therapy to get through a time that was difficult for all of us.

At the time I was using a simple bootee pattern that began at the heel and proceeded to end at the toe.  One night as I crocheted I told my husband, ‘I’ve made so many of these, I bet I could make these bootees backwards.’   –So I did.  The result surprised me.  The foot,  (IMO)  was a nicer shape than the old pattern.

As I made the cuff I decided to try the easy and fun crochet ribbing technique I had learned while crocheting a sweater.  At the time I scribbled down some loose instructions which I have now written down properly and I’m sharing here with you.

The ribbing technique I used requires alternating  ‘Front Post Double Crochet’ and  ‘Back Post Double Crochet’ stitches.  It’s fun, easy to learn and looks impressive.  It’s also what makes these bootees stay snug on baby’s feet.  Enjoy!
