#BakingOutsidetheBox | This crazy little hack cleans up hard water and soap scum off glass.I’m going to tell you how I got sparkling shower glass.  This is such a crazy thing that I just have to share it.

I stumbled upon it following an impulse which was followed by a bit of research.  Let me tell you what happened.  I had just rotated the laundry and turned on the dryer.  I had a basket of warm laundry waiting to be folded and as I grabbed it I looked down and saw my open washer door. (And yes, I grabbed my iPad and took a picture of it… blogaholic or photomaniac?  You tell me….)

Oh yuck.  Damp soap scum gunk on my nice washer door.  I whisked the used dryer sheet out of my basket of clean clothes and on an impulse, rubbed away.

I was pretty amazed as the gunk came right off the glass.  Had this really just happened?  The next thing I did was Google ‘Do dryer sheets clean glass?’  There were more than 10 pages of references for things you could do with old dryer sheets. ( How on earth did I miss knowing about this? 😛  ) The oldest reference I found was from  Apartment therapy in 2008.  It tells 20 ways to use dryer sheets.

I had just verified that used dryer sheets are more than the dust bunnies and ghosts of laundry past!  What else could I do with these little pieces of  previously useless fluff?

#12 on the list caught my eye:  Use it on shower doors to erase soap scum.  Forgetting my now wrinkling laundry, I grabbed another used dryer sheet and raced up to the master bath where I have a glassed in shower.  No amount of diligent squeegeeing  or bathroom cleaner could ever eliminate all the water spots.  I once used a type of harsh cleaner made for the purpose,  but it made my throat feel sore.  So I mostly just had spots on the shower door.

I gleefully stepped up and attacked the shower door with the used dryer sheet.  I discovered that, for me, it cleaned up more quickly if the door was lightly damp, like the washer door had been.

After the spots were gone I gave it a quick buff with a cleaning cloth.  Voila!  My shower door looked new.   So if you use dryer sheets (and I know not everyone chooses to) give this a try and make them do double duty and get sparkling shower glass.  Enjoy! Laura

Hope you had success with this. I’ve been much happier with my shower glass. I don’t know if the brand matters but i use Kirkland from Costco. Good luck!
